Figlio minore di J.S.Bach fu allievo del fratello Carl Philipp Emanuel a Berlino dopo la morte del padre.Organista nel duomo di Milano città che vide la sua prima opera Artaserse(1761).Divenne in seguito operista estremamente apprezzato a Londra , dove era diventato il musicista della regina.Fu il primo solista di pianoforte conosciuto.Utilizzo per primo il clarinetto in orchestra.Le sue produzioni musicali influen zarono notevolmente Mozart.

The youngest surviving son of Johann Sebastian studied with his father, his brother Carl Philipp Emanuel, and Padre Martini of Bologna. J. C. became organist at the Milan Cathedral in 1760 where he became known as the "Milan" Bach. Two years later he became the "London" Bach when he entered the service of the Queen of England. It was while he was music master to the Queen that Johann Christian met and instructed the young Mozart in 1764. J. C. Bach's works include symphonies, concertos, chamber works, piano pieces, church works, and thirteen operas.
